The Getty Research Institute has recently acquired the archive of Charles Atlas. Covering every period of the artist's expansive career the archive includes papers, notebooks, sketches, ephemera, books, films/videos, and digital materials, along with roughly 200 completed video works and videos that comprise larger installations, as well as outtakes and unused footage. Also within the archive are full-length interviews produced for Atlas' documentaries, as well as substantial documentation of dance performances never used in his finished works. The housing of these important materials with the Getty Research Institute will allow for these valuable resources to be available for research.
