Salt Lake Water School, a new site-specific installation by Oscar Tuazon, opens at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art on Friday, June 27 and will remain on view thorugh September 27, 2025.
Commissioned by the UMOCA and presented as part of Wake the Great Salt Lake, this installation is rooted in Tuazon’s long–running “Water School” (@_water_school) project. This modular, interactive structure explores our relationship to water — socially, spiritually, and ecologically — through the lens of Great Salt Lake. Ingrained in Indigenous knowledge and inspired by Winona LaDuke, it invites reflection on water as a shared resource, connector, teacher, and source of resilience. Salt Lake Water School is located outdoors at Abravanel Hall Plaza (corner of South Temple & West Temple, next door to UMOCA).
