This first major retrospective of Lygia Clark's work in Germany will open at the Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin on May 23, 2025.
The comprehensive exhibition will present Clark's oeuvre from the late 1940s to the 1980s, with more than 120 artworks ranging from geometric-abstract paintings to participatory sculptures and performances. The exhibition will highlight Clark as a radical innovator and follows the first major UK survey of her work at Whitechapel Gallery (October 2, 2024 – January 12, 2025). Visitors will be invited to engage with a large number of replicas created especially for the show, and to take part in workshops and group performances in order to fully engage in Clark’s interactive approach. Curated by Dr. Maike Steinkamp, Dr. Irina Hiebert Grun and Artistic Director Klaus Biesenbach, in collaboration with the Associação Cultural Lygia Clark, Rio de Janeiro, the exhibition will be accompanied by a bilingual exhibition catalogue, the first German-language publication on the artist's work.
