Rachel Whiteread: "...And the Animals Were Sold"

Rachel Whiteread's solo exhibition ...And the Animals Were Sold, is on view at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo, Italy, through October 29, 2023.

For the sixth consecutive year, GAMeC returns to occupy the prestigious Palazzo della Ragione venue, in the heart of the historic city center. The exhibition presents a brand new installation conceived in relation to the city of Bergamo and in conversation with the architecture and history of Palazzo della Ragione itself. The sixty chair sculptures are produced using various types of stone found in the building materials of both the Palazzo della Ragione and Piazza Vecchia. The installation ultimately constitutes an invitation to visitors to pause and bring to life the Sala delle Capriate, experiencing it as a place of exchange and relationship, of closeness and sharing.
