Luhring Augustine is pleased to announce Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller's Thought Experiments in F# Minor, an augmented reality sound-walk in and around the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Using an iPad Mini and a pair of headphones, the 40-minute WDCH Video Walk leads its audiences along a route through Walt Disney Concert Hall, revealing an imagined world hiding in plain sight.
Created by acclaimed artists Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller and featuring Los Angeles Philharmonic musicians, Thought Experiments in F# Minor invites viewers to follow a film recorded in the past along the same route they are traversing in the present. Made using binaural microphones, which create a three-dimensional sound experience, and edited to create a sense of continuous motion, the fictional world of the film blends seamlessly with the reality of the architecture and body in motion. The perceptive confusion is deepened by Cardiff’s hypnotic voice and dream-like narrative elements, accompanied by original music written by Ellen Reid.
Beginning March 1st, Thought Experiments in F# Minor will be presented free to the public as part of LA Phil 100, an unprecedented forward-looking centennial season featuring globe-spanning artistic programs, educational and social-impact initiatives, and public celebrations for all of L.A.
